6.2/6.3 Seaton Delaval Winery
Seaton Delaval Hall in Northumberland is surrounded by other outbuildings from the Delaval Estate. In this project the National Trust asked us to re-use the old coach house and surrounding barns to create visitor provision by having a craft production which could also be used for consumption on-site.
The Delaval family were known for their grand banquets - the concept for this design was the communication which a banquet format encourages and this then translated into the visually and physically connected courtyard. The layers of the site and the contrast between new and old material is the language which was created and informed by the existing junctions visible in the brewhouse building.
